Manami ( まなみ) / Penelope: One of the girls that lives in the condominiums in town and friend of Mackenzie.She keeps a "Touch List" of things she has touched and what they feel like. Although she's the most mature out of her friends, she can also often gain a typically childish amusement from doing "naughty" thing. Her personality is the most "ordinary", in contrast to the otherwise bizarre world around her. As a young girl, she runs a detective agency with the help of Cromwell.

Mackenzie's pet mushroom, Funghi, is used as an aid in some puzzles. The player can also communicate with the characters along conversation trees or present inventory items to them to learn new information. The player has an inventory of items collected, and may use them on other items or objects in the environment. Tapping a location on the screen will talk to a character or examine an object. The game is entirely controlled via the touch screen. There is also a Touch Notebook containing a list of major items in the game the player has touched. GameZone reviewer Steven Hopper notes that "the game features a unique aesthetic that feels like a Tim Burton version of a Jhonen Vasquez comic." Aside from the main plots, there are also a number of small bonus mysteries that involve much simpler tasks. Both the art style and the plot reflect a subtle fantasy mood – for example, the first case is to track down a thief who is stealing someone's dreams. And she is still a child, so she is somewhat scared of things (bugs and frogs she's okay with).The player controls the titular detective Mackenzie as she solves four mysteries in the small town of Osawari. Some things make her very confused since she is still a child, so she often doesn't get what to do at times and does seek help when needed or finds out clues by herself that could help her. She will also resort to 'petty tricks' if it means she can solve the case she's doing, but this is rarely as she tries to do a more 'logical' approach without using child-like means. She doesn't believe in fairy tales or magic, but will resort to seek help from the local Fortune Teller if she needs help even if she doesn't understand what the fortune actually means. But she is still a kid, so she has her faults at some points. She is very respectful, knows her manners, and is even considered the leader of her group (or at least seems like it). Her age is unknown, but she appears to be about 10-12 years old.ĭespite her age and size, she is the most adult-like of the group. In Touch Detective 2 ½, she has to solve even more cases (but Penelope only causes 1 out of 5 of them) and even meets a new ally, Inspector Daria, and a new villain, the Cornstalker. After solving the four cases, she joins the Great Detective Society and gains the title "Touch Detective". In the first game her friend Penelope gives three of her four main cases ( Beatrice giving her second case) and Chloe seems to be her rival. Her pet mushroom Funghi helps her as an assistant, as well as her family's longlife butler Cromwell. She is a girl that wants to become a detective, which is her family's business, but has trouble finding cases.
